Open Your Eyes and Ears

By C. Rogers Upson I recently read an article by a “former Christian,” that stated that the Bible was in error. I believe the quote he cited was from Luke 9:27, “But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.” He cites other scriptures, but fails to cite Luke 17:20-21, “Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Lo, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” The author of that other article states that the end times should have come before now, since Christ said that “there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God,” but let me suggest the following interpretation of that passage. Could it not be that Christ was speaking of his own rising from the dead and then his ascension into Heaven on that instance? OR, could he have been speaking of the true understanding that comes prior to death, when many people speak of the dying obtaining a visage of peace? Perhaps he meant that they would truly understand the kingdom before they died. Could that be? Especially, when he says “behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” An oft cited exhortation in the Bible is, “Let he who has ears hear and who has eyes see.” Now, this is not speaking of the physical eyes and ears, but of the spiritual eyes and ears. Those that let into the very heart of the soul and intrepret the Scriptures to the soul. The end times are not the way to keep the faith, nor is a wrong interpretation on our parts reason to believe the Bible is wrong. If one does not listen to the Scriptures with the ears of the spirit, the physical mind is incapable of truly interpreting what is being said. It can only judge what is said from its experiences here in the body, but what is needed is to let the spirit interpret these things from its experiences with higher things. It is my belief that the spirit is a type of energy that has existed since the beginning. Even from before time was counted. That it resides in the flesh in these days does not stop it from knowing more than the fleshly body and brain. If spirit is allowed to interpret the words in the Bible to the inner person and thus to the outer person, then the knowledge will be true. But, if we insist on interpreting from the flesh to the spirit, the knowledge will be false. If you are seeking knowledge of the kingdom of God, seek it first in the spirit and you will see it all around you. If you are seeking the knowledge of the end times, just to make sure you’re ready, well, look to Jerusalem. When it is surrounded by armies it is time to really get ready. But, then, again, we of the flesh cannot truly know when the end is near, so we must be ready at all times. Behave as though the end is immenent and you will be prepared when it comes; whenever it comes. For the person that wrote the article calling the Bible wrong, I shall pray that your spiritual eyes and ears are opened to the true knowledge of the scriptures and the kingdom of God. C. Creative Coping: What is Depression?

By John Duggan Depression is a serious illness, not a harmless part of life. As a psychotherapist recovering from a past experience of major clinical depression, I bring unique experiences to this dis-ease. I explain to clients how my experience is informed by academic study (“head” knowledge) and personal experience (empathy and “heart” knowledge.) There are many metaphors, poetic descriptions and analogies seeking to express the emotional content of a depressive experience. Perhaps one of the most vivid: “it is similar to an emotional toothache, with no hope for solace.” Any form of depression is a complex disorder with a variety of causes, including genetic, chemical, physical, and sociological. It is also influenced by behavior patterns learned in the family and by cognitive distortions. Technically, the words “depression” is inaccurate — there are many forms of “depressions” (plural). Nonetheless, all types of depression are a “whole body” concern — mood disorders impact our physiology, biochemistry, thoughts, behaviors and capacity to make clear decisions. Here’s the key; there is no shame or weakness if one lives with a mental health concern. It is important (critical) to be certain that an appropriate assessment and treatment plan is established. Like any other disease, if left untreated … it often becomes worse. Depression affects thousands of people in the United States. It is always troubling, yet for some people it can be severely disabling. Depression is more than just sadness or the blues; it can impact nearly every aspect of a persons life. People who suffer from it may experience despair and worthlessness, feelings that can greatly influence both personal and professional relationships. In this handout, many of the factors which evoke depression are described, and strategies for preventing depression are explored. When a person suffers from depression, it can affect every part of his/her life, including ones physical body, behavior, thought processes, mood, ability to relate to others, and general lifestyle. Many folks report body aches, insomnia, lack of interest and difficulty with decision (including ordinary issues, such as “What do I want for dinner?”). WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS? People diagnosed with clinical depression typically have a combination of symptoms, including: – Feelings of hopelessness, even when there is reason to be hopeful – Fatigue or low energy – Greatly reduced interest or pleasure in most regular activities – Low self-esteem – Feelings of worthlessness – Excessive or inappropriate guilt – Lessened ability to think or concentrate – Indecisiveness – Distorted thoughts and having an unrealistic view of life – Weight gain or loss – Appetite changes – Sleeping pattern changes – Recurrent thoughts of death – Suicidal thoughts – Specific plan for committing suicide – Suicide attempt – Feelings of restlessness or being slowed down When a person suffers from depression, his/her symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in family, social, and occupational relationships, as well as other important areas of life. Such symptoms are not the result of a chronic psychotic disorder, substance abuse, a general medical condition, or bereavement. Depression may include feelings of sadness but is not the same as sadness. Depression lasts much longer and involves a loss of self-esteem, which sadness does not. People who are depressed function less productivity; people who are sad or disappointed continue to function. CONCLUSION Any form of depression is a “full-body” issue. It impacts our mind, body, spirit and emotions. If you or someone you know experiences any of these feelings or behaviors, seek assistance of a qualified mental health professional. This is a medical condition which can be treated … and it’s not a sign of weakness, failure or a valid source for shame. “Creative Coping” is a series of mental wellness articles written and distributed by www.dcDiversity.com. Key Marketing Questions – Planning Your Marketing Campaign

By Michele Schermerhorn So you started a business. Hows it going? Did you think about marketing when you began planning for your business? Marketing is how you get the word out about your business. Marketing will ultimately determine if you succeed or fail. So, how can you succeed? What questions should you be asking yourself? Here are the BIG FIVE! WHO DO I WANT AS A CUSTOMER? Lets say you were trying to sell a video game. To effectively sell a video game to a fifteen year old requires an entirely different conversation than selling the same item to his mother. To be successful in marketing, you must segment your possible customers into different groups who share common concerns. If your product could be sold to a fifteen year old or a 40 year old, youd better decide who you are going to focus your marketing efforts upon for the greatest success. Visualize your prospective customers. Pick an ideal customer. This would be one you might already have intimate knowledge of (like your own age group and gender). Now, describe detailed characteristics of your ideal prospect. Be very specific. Crawl within their mindset. What is important to them? What worries them? What problem of theirs can your product or service satisfy? Based upon your detailed description of your ideal customer, develop a powerful sales message. This message should appeal directly to their unique interests and needs. Prospects are more likely to respond when they feel you are talking directly to them about their individual needs. Once you have decided upon an ideal customer, you must decide on the ideal outcome of your marketing efforts to that prospect. WHAT IDEAL OUTCOME DO I WANT TO PRODUCE? Customers buy for their reasons, not yours. If you want to sell them your product, you MUST sell to their concerns, not your own. Every piece of marketing copy must FOCUS upon them. If you dont speak their language, you dont get their money. Decide in advance what ideal outcome you are trying to stimulate. Do you want to get inquiries for your product or service? Do you want to build a list of qualified prospects willing to receive frequent offers from you? Do you want to produce sales directly from your promotion? Each of these ideal possible outcomes would be designed in a different way. The first step in the successful design of a marketing message is to decide on the ideal outcome. Then, stay focused upon that goal. Once you have determined that ideal outcome, you can develop an effective promotion. When you have a clear understanding of the action you are trying to generate, the design of your message becomes easier. WHAT IS MY COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE? The cheapest and easiest marketing in the world is free advertising. How do you get free advertising? Do something OUTRAGEOUS or just different from your competition! Become news worthy. How? When Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream first tried to expand to a nation-wide operation, it had trouble finding distributors. They determined the problem was that Pillsbury put out the word to all distributors not to work with Ben & Jerrys. Pillsburys edict effectively blocked Ben & Jerrys from the services of the national distributors. What to do? Ben & Jerrys set up a one-man picket line outside Pillsbury headquarters. The picket sign read Whos the Doughboy afraid of? The result? National-wide FREE publicity on television and newspapers. Publicity they couldnt afford to buy. In order to differentiate yourself from the crowd of competitors, you MUST be DIFFERENT! How to differentiate yourself? Start by identifying why prospects should do business with you. Why you instead of your competitor selling a similar product or service? For example, do you provide faster results, easier procedures, personal attention or a better guarantee? If you cannot think of one reason – create one. Add something to your business you are not already doing. Change the way you currently do something. Differentiating yourself from the competition is one of the hardest tasks to accomplish. It is also one with the largest positive impact upon your bottom line. Differentiating yourself will increase business. HOW WILL I PROVE MY CLAIMS? Don’t expect prospects to believe what you say. They are exposed to millions of messages containing marketing hype every minute of every day. Stand out from the crowd by making sure you provide proof of any claims you make. For example, collect and use testimonials from satisfied customers. Provide research data or reference articles supporting your claims. Write articles about the product or service you sell to establish yourself as an expert. Or, get endorsements from experts your prospects are likely to recognize. Proof of your marketing claims will move you a long way toward a sale and a happy, returning customer. HOW WILL I CREATE URGENCY FOR THE CUSTOMER? Most prospects will not respond with the desired outcome the first time they see your promotion. Instead, they may delay making any response. The longer they delay, the better the chance they will forget about you. How do you make them take action now? You can convert many into buyers by giving them a compelling reason to respond immediately. For example, give them a special price if they order now – or include a valuable bonus if they order by a specific deadline. Get in the habit of developing a series of special offers. Use them one at a time with an expiration deadline. When one offer expires, replace it with the next offer (and a new deadline). This enables you to create urgency in the minds of your prospects and drive sales. In summary, you need to answer all of these marketing questions before you can create a motivating web page, sales letter or presentation. The answers will reveal how you can get your prospect’s attention and stimulate them to take the action you want. Stay focused on these questions and answers as you design your marketing efforts. Some Really Cool Birthday Decorating Ideas!

By Sarah H The great thing about birthday decorations is that there are hundreds of different items to choose from. Birthday decorations come in every size, shape, and color and can match any theme you can come up with irrespective of how creative, unique or downright strange the theme is. But the really great thing about birthday decorations is how the right combination of color, style and theme can make anyone light up as bright as the sun. Over the years people have literally revolutionized the traditional birthday party and the decorations. The results have been ingenious ideas brought to life by impressive works of art on display. They are, simply put, classically cool. So to help you plan an unforgettable birthday party, here are some ultra cool birthday decorating ideas that could land your creation in the classically cool collection. Chocolates, candies and chocolate coated candies are just some of the very many treats that are ever present at birthday parties. But dont underestimate the potential decorative qualities of these multi colored, multi shaped goodies, because they arent just delectable munchies, they also make great centerpiece decorations! You can design fruit baskets, the baskets being made out of hollowed or bowl shaped chocolate and various fruits made out of candy. Purple round lollipops can be used as grapes, red and green jawbreakers can be used as apples and even different color licorice sticks can be entwined to make other fruits. The candied fruit basket is an exceptionally cool idea as a decorative piece for childrens birthday parties because not very many children are fond of fruit, but youll take them by surprise when they find out otherwise! Its always nice to get unexpected presents isnt it? Well what if you were invited to a birthday party, where balloons hung everywhere and exotic flowers lined pathways while scented candles grace tabletops mixed with the natural fragrance of the flowers, only to find out that inside every balloon, between all the exotic flowers, alongside every lit pathway and under every candle was a surprise present. This is possibly the second coolest way to make decorations an actual part of the birthday party and the best part is that your guests all get to walk away with a little something extra! So now youre probably wondering what the number one coolest birthday decorating idea is. Two words; Willy Wonka. Well not the actual character, but if youre going to spend all that money and time buying and putting up birthday decorations that will just have to be taken down and boxed or thrown away, why not make all the birthday decorations edible? Now dont get the wrong idea here, its not like you are going to create an entire chocolate factory. But why buy statuettes for centerpieces that convey the theme of the party but you will never have use for again, or serving dishes that match the color code of the party but goes with nothing else in your house or confetti that ends the party leaving you to clean up a big mess, when you can have all these decorations with no need for storage or dumping or a weeks worth of cleaning when the party is over? Well, put yourself in Willy Wonkas shoes and try to think the way he might think. Make all the decorations out of candy and all kinds of sweets! And if you are adventurous enough go can go for the mother of all delicious decorations; the chocolate fountain! Kids will love the candy land youve made and adults will be amazed by your ingenuity. Now if thats not the absolute, ultimate, coolest birthday decorating idea of all time, then what on the green earth can top that? Nothing I say! Weight Loss Sabotage: “I Deserve It”

By Carol Solomon A few weeks ago, I wrote about feeling deserving to lose weight. But this is about a different issue . . . It is that feeling you get . . . sometimes an almost imperceptible thought before you overeat. “I deserve it.” “I have worked so hard.” “I have put up with so much.” “I deserve this.” It is JUST that easy to sabotage yourself. And it is probably the very best, believable rationalization you can make. After all, you HAVE worked hard, and tolerated a great deal. You probably have exhausted yourself in the process. It is SO easy to reach for food. And so easy to justify it. To get that instant sense of relief, the sense of giving yourself something . . . to pay yourself back for the endurance of working so hard, doing so much (for everyone else) and tolerating it all. If you can’t have what you REALLY want (e.g. a lighter schedule, a deep rest, fewer responsibilities, a week at a spa . . .), then it is SO easy to SETTLE for food. Yes – food is easy. Life is hard. Next time . . . think about what it is you REALLY want. The truth is . . . food is NOT going to solve it. It’s NOT the answer. ASK yourself – is this going to solve the problem? The extent to which you can be honest with yourself and act accordingly is the extent to which you can make progress. The extent to which you are still convincing yourself that it’s what you really need is the extent that you sell out on yourself. Ask yourself what you REALLY need. And try to give it to yourself. Chances are . . . it won’t be chocolate. Here’s to getting the real thing. With love, Carol Carol Solomon, Ph.D. is a psychologist and personal coach who specializes in helping people who want to lose weight and eliminate food and weight issues. By going from food obsessive to charge neutral (i.e. Did I eat today?), she became dedicated to making it easy for others to step off the vicious cycle and live free of anxiety about food and weight. Lose Weight While Eating Candy?

By Mike Vincent If you are trying to lose weight then it is generally wise to avoid sweet in-between-meal snacks such as candy. However a new kind of lollipop, filled with a natural appetite suppressor and vitamins, could make candy snacks an integral part of a serious weight loss program. The appetite suppressant that forms the main ingredient of these weight-loss lollipops, sold under trade names such as Power Pops, comes from the Hoodia Gordonii plant. The Bushmen of South Africas Kalahari Desert have been eating Hoodia Gordonii for thousands of years. They would eat the plant while going out on long hunting expeditions in order to decrease their appetite and increase their energy. During the 1960s medical researchers found that the active ingredient of the plant does indeed suppress appetite. Journalists from CBS and BBC too have tried Hoodia and their reports on the appetite suppressing qualities of the South African plant have made Hoodia the latest thing for people anxious to do something about their weight problems. But Hoodia cannot be effectively taken like a simple weight loss pill. The Bushmen of the Kalahari didnt take capsules or pills rather they chewed on the plant slowly. It is a slow and gradual release of the plants appetite suppressing ingredient that provides the most effective way to get the benefits of Hoodia. Sucking on a Hoodia-laden lollipop provides a good way to take Hoodia in a way that is similar to the successful use of the plant by the Bushmen. The nutrients are released slowly as you suck on the candy. In addition, holding the lollipop in your hand keeps you from reaching for other munchies. Makers of the Hoodia lollipops say that they can be taken in between meals instead of other snacks or can be used in connection with a weight reduction meal plan. For example they say that you can take a Hoodia lollipop with an eight ounce glass of water just thirty minutes before eating breakfast. They advise eating a well-balanced meal that includes fresh fruits. When lunch time comes you can take another Hoodia lollipop with a glass of water thirty minutes before eating and then eat a balanced meal with protein, vegetables and carbohydrates. And the lollipop again is taken 30 minutes before dinner. Once again the dinner should be a balanced meal, and it should be eaten three hours before bedtime. There are only two ways to lose weight, either you reduce your intake of food and calories or you must increase your exercise. If you have been struggling to reduce your calorie level due to uncontrollable hunger and continual snacking, then the new Hoodia products, combined with balanced meals and exercise may be just what you need to lose weight in a natural and enjoyable way. Mike Vincent is a frequent writer on health matters and manages the websites http://www.Hoodia-diet-pops.com and http://www.healthy4life.com/powerpops.php , both of which provide more information about Hoodia Gordonii Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mike_Vincent http://EzineArticles.com/?Lose-Weight-While-Eating-Candy?&id=512511 payday loan no fax smart choice paycheck loans private lenders for personal loans broker wholesale unsecured business loans

Codependent Relationships: Takers and Caretakers

By Margaret Paul, Ph.D. Takers and caretakers they often seem to find each other! As a counselor who has worked with relationships for 37 years, I can tell you that this is the most frequent relationship dynamic that I encounter. Takers are people who tend to be narcissistic that is, they are self-centered with an excessive need for attention and admiration. The taker attempts to control getting love, attention, approval or sex from others with anger, blame, violence, criticism, irritation, righteousness, neediness, invasive touch, invasive energy, incessant talking and/or emotional drama. The taker uses many forms of both overt and covert control to get the attention he or she wants. Takers not only want a lot of control, but are often afraid of being controlled and become overtly or covertly resistant to doing what someone else wants them to do. The taker might resist with denial, defending, procrastination, rebellion, irresponsibility, indifference, withdrawal, deadness, numbness, rigidity, and/or incompetence. In a relationship, takers operate from the belief that You are responsible for my feelings of pain and joy. It is your job to make sure that I am okay. Caretakers, on the other hand, operate from the belief that I am responsible for your feelings. When I do it right, you will be happy and then I will receive the approval I need. Caretakers sacrifice their own needs and wants to take care of the needs and wants of others, even when others are capable of doing it themselves. Caretakers give to others from fear rather than love – they give to get. Neither takers nor caretakers take responsibility for their own feelings and wellbeing. Takers generally attempt to have control over others giving them the attention and admiration they want in overt ways, while caretakers attempt to have control over getting approval in more covert ways, such as compliance, doing to much for others, and/or withholding their wants and opinions. Because neither takers nor caretakers are taking care of themselves, they will each end up feeling angry, resentful, trapped, unappreciated, unseen, unloved, misunderstood, and/or unacknowledged. I tell my clients that whenever they feel this way in a relationship, it is because they are expecting the other person to give them what they are not giving to themselves. When we are not seeing, valuing, acknowledging, or understanding ourselves, and when we are not attending to our own wants and needs, we will always feel upset when others treat us just like we are treating ourselves. Codependent relationships relationships of two takers, two caretakers, or a taker and a caretaker will always run into problems. Many people leave these relationships, only to discover the same problems in their next relationships. Takers and caretakers can switch places in different relationships and over different issues, but the problems remain the same anger, resentment, distance, lack of sexuality, boredom, feeling unloved and unloving. There really is a way to heal this. Relationships heal when individuals heal. When each partner does their inner work for example practicing the Inner Bonding process that we teach (see www.innerbonding.com for a free course) their relationship system heals. When each person learns to take full personal responsibility for his or her own feelings of pain and joy, they stop pulling on each other and blaming each other. When each person learns to fill themselves with love and share that love with each other, instead of always trying to get love, the relationship heals. Learning how to take100% responsibility for your own feelings is one of the essential ingredients in creating a healthy relationship. This means learning to be conscious of what you are feeling and being open to learning about what you are doing to create your own feelings, instead of being a victim and believing that others are causing your feelings. Your feelings come from how you treat yourself and others, from what you tell yourself and what you believe about yourself and others, rather than from others behavior. Blaming others for your feelings will always lead to major relationship problems. Why not start today by taking your eyes off your partner and putting them squarely on yourself? In reality, you are the only one you actually have control over. You are the only one you can change. About The Author Margaret Paul, Ph.D. is the best-selling author and co-author of eight books, including “Do I Have To Give Up Me To Be Loved By You?” and Healing Your Aloneness. Effective Marketing – Send Right Messages to Your Customers

By Natalie Aranda In the modern world of marketing there is much attention given to the media presentation of our business. Radio and Television advertising is important and part of an overall marketing presentation, but they can not completely replace the printed word for effective marketing. A brochure or a booklet giving the facts about your business has a place in the overall plan. The major problem with television and radio is that the messages are broadcast and then they are gone. They do not give the complete story in the same way that a printed brochure can do it. Often times they are forgotten while the printed booklet can be kept and read over and over. Brochure printing and booklet printed can be done in house with the aid of software specifically designed for this purpose. They can also be printed by an outside firm, and usually this is the better way to go. In many ways, your business will be judged not only by the content of your brochure, but also by its appearance. A professionally printed brochure will give the impression of a professionally run organization. First impressions are very important in marketing, and often the printed article will be the first impression your customers gets of you. As important as the overall look is in brochures, the content is even more important. This is an area that requires careful preparation, and should be checked closely for accuracy. The brochure tends to be a little more of a short term advertisement while the booklet is generally intended for more long term use. In the brochure, you need to make sure that the time limits of the advertisement are clearly shown. The brochure is intended to be discarded after the time span expires. The booklet more often covers the product line, or detailed listing of the services and the intention is that it will be kept for a long time. The right message is the key. Your right message should be illustrated in the quality of the printed advertising material used by your company, and also by the accuracy and timeliness of the content. Printed advertising materials are generally much more cost effective than radio and television and have a more lasting effect. Many new companies put too much effort into expensive advertisement because it gives the impression of a business that is more than it may be, but the printed brochure can capture what a business really is, and this is more important to the customer.
